TRAVELLING ALONG THE PANAMERICANA IN SOUTH AMERICA-BOLIVIA by Frank Klaus (Germany)

The lagoon route-Bolivia

There is no single lagoon route. Rather, it is a widely ramified network of numerous tracks in varying conditions and varying degrees of solitude. All these tracks have one thing in common: they lead the traveler through a spectacular mountain landscape with geysers, volcanoes, mountain ranges and thermal springs and, of course, the various lagoons themselves.

The lagoons are located in the Bolivian part of the Altiplano, the South American high plateau that stretches across large parts of Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. The route lies between 4500 and almost 5000 meters above sea level.

Typical, especially on the busier main route, is the corrugated iron slope called “ripio” in South America. Between the lagoons, there is ample opportunity to try out all the well-known theories that have already dealt with it: flying over it quickly, swinging through it comfortably: anyone who has already dealt with this phenomenon knows that it is nerve-wracking, but can also quickly become dangerous.

The only thing that helps a little is reducing the air pressure in the tires.

Well….

Air out of your tires and off we go into one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes our planet has to offer.
