MAURITIIUS 2024 IGAL AGM-BUSINESS DAY by Brian Brokate (USA)

Mike Djordjevich, President  and Christian Li, conference host (and IGAL member) opened the session with welcoming remarks.

The delegates then were treated to a full description of Mauritius as a financial centre by the Minister of Finance of Mauritius and members of CKLB. It introduced the members to the numerous business possibilities in Mauritius.

This was followed by a presentation on the history of the legal system in Mauritius with its origins in the French and English traditions and borrowing from various neighbouring jurisdictions. These combinations make for a very unique working system.

The delegates were then presented with an overview of the ethical issues in dealing with AI. The future, relating to this area, is both exciting and uncertain. Many relevant questions were generated promoting a lively discussion.

The morning session concluded with an interesting presentation by Afraisia Bank Limited. It was useful to understand the workings of this quality, professional bank.

Following a delicious lunch, a panel discussion of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) and its impact in various jurisdictions was held moderated by the CEO of the Mauritius Bankers Association.

The business day was capped off with an introduction to yoga and Tai Chi, so the delegates left the day in a very relaxed mood.
