CKLB News brief

Dear Friends

On 5 June 2025, the Honourable Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development delivered the National Budget Speech themed “From Abyss to Prosperity: Rebuilding the Bridge to the Future”, setting the tone for the government’s strategic agenda under its current mandate.

The Budget outlines a forward-looking economic vision anchored on three core pillars, namely: (a) Economic Renewal, (b) A New Social Order and (c) Fiscal Consolidation.

In 2024, Mauritius recorded a GDP growth of 4.7%, primarily driven by strong performances in construction, tourism, and financial services. Nonetheless, inflation remains elevated at 3.8% due to external price pressures and the unemployment rate stands at 6%, largely impacted by structural labour shortages. Public sector debt has reached 90% of GDP, underscoring the importance of the budget’s fiscal discipline measures.

We trust this brief provides a valuable overview of the key highlights and implications of the 2025–2026 Budget. As always, we welcome your feedback and thank you for your continued readership and support.
