THREE IDEAS FOR MAKING YOUR IMPERSONAL APARTMENT FEEL MORE LIKE HOME by Mike Djordjevich (USA)

Apartments often feel impersonal—especially right after moving in. Fortunately, there are easy ways to bring a little personality to your apartment that won’t require you to make significant changes. Here are three simple ideas that can help make your impersonal apartment feel more like home.

  1. Display paintings, prints, and photos throughout your apartment.

Paintings, prints, and photos can make impersonal rooms feel far more meaningful to you. To get started, place a selection of personal pictures around the apartment. Next, hang some artwork you find visually appealing prominently on your walls. Finally, don’t forget to factor in your unique tastes when choosing the frames.

  1. Put down an assortment of throw rugs.

Throw rugs can give an impersonal floor an attractive new look that feels more like home. They can also be handy if you find your current flooring too hard or too cold. When choosing a throw rug for your apartment, give extra consideration to its texture and durability if it’s likely to be stood on for long periods.

  1. Use your favorite colors liberally in your décor.

To make your apartment feel more like home, do your best to surround yourself with your favorite colors. If you’re able, repaint some rooms to be more in line with your personal preferences. If repainting isn’t allowed, incorporate your favorite colors in other areas of your apartment, like your furniture or linens.
