Non-Citizen Retired Permit in Mauritius
Discover an inviting new chapter in life on the island of Mauritius, celebrated for its powder white beaches, rich cultural tapestry and steady political and economic climate since its independence in 1968. With modern healthcare, a dynamic multicultural society and an advantageous tax regime, Mauritius has emerged as a premier retirement destination.
For non-citizens aged 50 and over, Mauritius offers the Retired Non-Citizen (+50 Years) Residence Permit, a 10-year residence permit, renewable, designed with your lifestyle in mind. To qualify you need to show evidence of providing at least USD 1,500 per month (or USD 18,000 per year) transferred into a Mauritian bank account, or equivalent funds from abroad. Once approved, you are eligible to remain in Mauritius, enjoy your retirement and invite your spouse, parents or children (unmarried and under the definition of dependents) to join you under the same residence permit.
Beyond the initial 10-year term, if you find yourself captivated by the island’s charm, its people, its culture, its calm rhythm of life, you may consider taking the next step: applying for a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit, provided you have held the retired permit for at least three consecutive years and comply with the required funds transferred (USD 54,000 over three years or equivalent).
Mauritius also offers a friendly tax environment: no tax on capital gains or inheritance, and a maximum income tax rate of 20 % (with many exemptions) among its attractive features. Retirees under this scheme may also invest in property under schemes such as the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES), Property Development Scheme (PDS) or Smart City Scheme (SCS); and they may invest in a business provided they do not take salary or employment benefits from it.
