TRAVELLING THE PANAMERICANA THROUGH SOUTH AMERICA-USHUAIA by Frank Klaus (Germany)

Ushuaia, our destination at the end of the world.

Tierra del Fuego welcomed us with blue skies, moderate temperatures, and a wreck. However, it wasn’t the shipwreck we had expected.

To get there, we had to drive along a dirt road to the coast. But here, too, the journey was what counted, what the very point of our trip was. By the time we reached the Desdemona, we had already enjoyed a wonderful drive through stunning scenery.

It wasn’t far to Ushuaia now, and by evening we reached the southernmost city in the world. This is where the ships depart for Antarctica. However, when we arrived, the season was already over and we only saw the last ships returning from the frozen continent.

After exploring the city extensively, we concluded by visiting the Tierra del Fuego National Park to properly conclude our trip along the Pan-American Highway. This is also where Ruta 3 begins, which will now take us more than 3,000 km, along the Atlantic coast, back to Buenos Aires.
