Hosting a dinner party can be both very fun and very stressful. After all, it’s fun to catch up with friends and family, but the work it takes to host and entertain guests can feel overwhelming at times. To help minimize the stress of being a host, remember the following three tips the next time you’re planning a dinner party.
- Don’t try out new recipes at your dinner parties.
New recipes can be unpredictable, which is why you shouldn’t serve any untested meals during your dinner parties. Instead of unintentionally offering something questionable to your guests, pick a day before the event to test out any new recipes you’re planning to serve. By testing the meals beforehand, you’ll have a better idea about what your guests will receive.
- Carefully look over your planned menu in the days leading up to your dinner party.
Carefully going over your planned menu can help you determine which ingredients you still need to buy to cook for your dinner party. As you figure out the missing ingredients, make a list so you won’t forget anything while you’re in the store. If possible, pick up the missing food items before the day of the party, so you won’t need to do any last-minute shopping. Last-minute shopping can be stressful if you’re having trouble finding certain items, plus it leaves you less time to prepare for your guests.
- Prepare as much food as possible the day before the dinner party.
Preparing food the day before the dinner party will help keep you from becoming overwhelmed when the actual day arrives. This early prep work should include cooking anything you can in advance, plus preparing the ingredients for any dishes you will cook the day of the party. The more preparations you do ahead of time, the less stressful your day will be.
The ultimate dinner party should be more fun than it is stressful.
Bon Appetit.
