IT’S BEEN RAININ’, MAN!
There was a song written by John Fogerty and originally recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival by the name of “Who’ll Stop the Rain.”
The first stanza was:
“Long as I remember the rain been comin’ down,
Clouds of mystery pourin’ confusion on the ground
Good men through the ages tryin’ to find the sun
And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain?”
I have always liked the song. I never thought that I’d get to live it and keep repeating its words.
Been back on our Island for a bit. All the trees, animals, beaches and coves are still there. And, yes, it is still beautiful and charming as ever. For how long, I keep asking myself?
It has been raining so hard that the Islanders are beginning to discuss it exclusively and vehemently in cafes and bars. As if nothing else mattered. Maybe it doesn’t any longer as we have been huddled under heavy cloud covers in the dark. And, as if full of mother’s milk, the clouds are overflowing us with so much liquid. Unlike mother’s milk, it is not nurturing and satisfying but, rather, cold, off-putting and, simply, scary.
Personally, I have not ever imagined that that much water can be released from the Heavens. I understand that we are all sinners and mortals, not worth anyone engaging or spending any time with us. But, really? There have to be limits.
What’ll happen if the rain never stops? Will we all float away into some other dimension, even another Universe? Anything seems possible now. Nothing is fantastic, all is real. Is it really necessary for the world to fall apart and the climate to change at the same time? These are questions leading us into more questions.
In the interim, our Island, and all of us on it, are taking a beating and trying to stay dry. Most of the locals are beginning to dream about the Sun and how long it’s been since they have seen it. And, of course, we are praying for the day we might see it again and how glorious it will be. At least, we are hoping.
Still, as the song says, I wonder, who’ll stop the rain?
