The IGAL community is delighted to celebrate a remarkable achievement by Mrs. Niti Sarin, who has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for 2025 by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology (ISBTI).
The award was presented during the 51st Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology, TRANSCON-2026, held in Kochi, Kerala, India, from 18 to 20 September 2026.
This prestigious recognition celebrates Niti’s remarkable contribution, dedication and long-standing commitment to the field of voluntary blood donation in India.
Nearly four decades of commitment
Niti’s involvement in voluntary blood donation is far more than an occasional commitment.
A 58-time blood donor herself, she has been a member of the Blood Bank Society, Chandigarh (BBS) for almost 40 years and has served as its Secretary for the past 20 years.
Throughout those decades, she has dedicated her time and energy to promoting voluntary blood donation and supporting the work of an organisation with a long history of public service.
Her commitment also continues a remarkable family legacy.
Niti follows in the footsteps of her mother, the late Padmashree Kanta Saroop Krishen, who founded the Blood Bank Society, Chandigarh in 1964.
What began more than six decades ago has therefore become a story spanning generations — united by the same commitment to helping others.
A contribution that has helped create lasting change
The work of the Blood Bank Society, Chandigarh extends beyond encouraging individuals to donate blood.
Its voluntary workers were involved in the filing of a Public Interest Litigation before the Supreme Court of India, which ultimately contributed to the banning of the buying and selling of blood in India in 1996.
It is an important reminder that sustained voluntary action can have an impact far beyond individual acts of generosity.
Niti’s own contribution as a voluntary social worker has previously been recognised by the Chandigarh Administration, which honoured her on Republic Day in both 2000 and 2014.
The Lifetime Achievement Award represents another important recognition of a commitment that has now extended across several decades.
An Award shared with an entire community
When accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award, Niti chose not to make the moment solely about her own contribution.
Instead, she dedicated the recognition to the many voluntary workers who have supported the Blood Bank Society and promoted voluntary blood donation over the past 60 years.
“This award is dedicated to all the voluntary workers of the Blood Bank Society who have promoted voluntary blood donation for the last 60 years.”
It is a sentiment that perfectly reflects the spirit behind her work: individual commitment strengthened by collective action.
Celebrating the people behind the IGAL community
IGAL is first and foremost an international professional network, bringing together independent lawyers and accountants from around the world.
But behind every member firm are people whose contributions often extend far beyond their professional lives.
